A group of researchers from the Intelligent Systems Lab (ISLab), research group coordinated by Professor Paulo Novais (Department of Informatics) and integrated in the ALGORITMI Research Centre of the EEUM, won the Best Student Paper award at the PECCS 2015 - International Conference on Pervasive and Embedded Computing and Communication Systems. The authors presented a work entitled "Mental Workload Management as a Tool in e-Learning Scenarios", authored by André Pimenta, Sérgio Gonçalves, Davide Carneiro, Florentino Fdez-Riverola, José Neves and Paulo Novais.
This work was developed in the context of the CAMCoF research project (Context-aware Multimodal Communication Framework), funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and counted on the collaboration of Professor Florentino Fdez-Riveraola, from the University of Vigo.
The main goal of the CAMCoF project is the development of an approach to model a computer user's context, with an emphasis on stress and fatigue, and the providing of this type of information to intelligent environments, so that richer interaction and communication processes can be developed. This will allow more efficient communication mechanisms between machines and their users. The awarded paper specifically detailed the applications of this approach in the scope of e-Learning.
The ISLab has the pleasure to invite you to attend the public lecture entitled "Riscossistemas e Tomada de Decisão". It will feature contributions of Manuel Gonçalves and Célia Ferreira, from Credit Department, Millennium bcp . The lecture will begin at 11h00, 14th January, in the amphitheater A1 of the Department of Informatics, on the Campus of Gualtar, in Braga. Summary: "The management of large portfolios of retail customers presupposes taking frequent decisions supported in predictions combined with events. The effectiveness and efficiency of business processes depends on the quality of the predictions, through models integrated into "riscossistemas".

The CAMCoF team has presented the CAMCoF project to the community of scientists who attended at NeRD Retreat Poster Session 2013. This meeting took place in Barcelos, Braga, Portugal, from 29th November to 1st December.
In week 25th to 29th November we had the visit of Prof. Antonio Fernández-Caballero (head of the n&aIS team, belonging to the LoUISE research laboratory at the Computer Science Research Institute at Albacete (i3A)), invited by Prof. Paulo Novais, visited ISLab and attended several sessions of knowledge and ideas sharing.
The 13th TeIA (Tertúlias em IA), with the theme "Behavioural Analysis and Monitoring in Ambient Intelligence Systems", will take place on the 26th of November 2013. It will feature contributions from Antonio Fernandez-Caballero from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Francisco Andrade from the Law School of the University of Minho, and Davide Carneiro and Ângelo Costa from the CCTC of the University of Minho. The session will begin at 14h00 in the amphitheater A2 of the Department of Informatics, on the Campus of Gualtar, in Braga.
